these passages confirm what I have been learning. the thief comes only to steal, kill, and destroy. the thief wishes that we would live for ourselves, that we would glorify man, that the old things would live on. that which is natural to us is unrighteousness. there is condemnation for those who are not in Christ Jesus. Christ brings abundant life to those who are in Him. Christ makes us a new creation, He brings new things. only God's nature is divine. your nature is no different than mine, both must die. both of us should be so blessed as to be risen with Christ, given new life unlike any we've known, made new creations. new! not better or different, NEW! me and you. because my nature, that which is natural to me, my desires- they are not from God. only that which is new, that which is not my own could be from God.

Ezekiel 36:25-27 Then I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your filthiness and from all your idols. Moreover, I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; and I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. put the design on a computer, used a transparency to make the screen

and printed!

after three printing sessions, we are starting to get the hang of it. after the first session we figured out we needed to be using a temporary adhesive to keep the fabrics in place. after the second session we learned about off contact and WOW, what a stinkin' difference... we're not forcing the ink through the shirt, the top layer isn't sticking to the screen... just wow

why do we say "two thousand nine" when for as long as any of us can remember we've been saying "fourteen ninety-two" and "seventeen seventy-six" even "nineteen o-one" so why did we start saying "two thousand one" instead of "twenty o-one?" I honestly wonder if the movie and book 2001: a space odyssey didn't have something to do with this strange happening

anyway, here's to betting we get back to our roots when 2010 comes around. you'd sound very odd saying "two thousand ten" more odd than "two thousand five"

relationships are so awesome! they're terribly difficult and impossible without the Lord. I like to meditate on friendship because I usually learn something and I always recall the great friendships God has given me which causes thanksgiving and once again draws me to Him

I think to be a good friend you have to first seek God

a few Emerson quotes that come to mind- "we must be our own before we can be another's" "shall I not be as real as the things I see? if I am, I shall not fear to know them for what they are"

how I think all of that is related- truth and honesty permit friendship. if we are not honest with ourselves then we will not be honest with another. to know ourselves means knowing Christ. (I'd say without Christ all of that's impossible, with Him we can struggle)

deep vs. super(ficial) I think we're blessed to have either/or both. good friends run from nothing. if a friend will not go "deep" when you're taking them there, then they're protecting themselves from something they fear will hurt them and not allowing some burden to be exposed/shared. they're missing out on a blessing (the sharing of the burden, which is a strong sign of a good friendship) this sort of experience reveals something about the relationship but doesn't disqualify it as a friendship (I think it's easy to write people off, when as a Christian we're called to love them *unconditionally)

there are definitely many levels of friendship. there was a time in my life when I thought I'd be closer than a brother for anyone/everyone... obviously I quickly realized that just wasn't good or beneficiary. I think we can have many acquaintances. close friends are more rare and friends that are closer than a brother- we should be so blessed to have three in a lifetime. why three?

Ed Young Jr. used to talk about relationships/community, etc. and said Christ led by example having a close circle of twelve friends with which He could minister to prostitutes, thieves, thugs and worse. He celebrated festivals with them, went on road trips with them, ate with them, spent most of His days with them. this was His community. within those twelve there were three to which Christ was closer, closer than a brother. those men bore each others burdens, those were the people that could go deep without hesitation. another example of a relationship like Christ and the three would be David & Jonathan. something to recognize is how infrequent those type of friendships were in those men's lives, this hopefully calls us to a gratefulness for God's blessing of friendship.

to quote Emerson again-"my friends have come to me unsought. the great God gave them to me."

when God chooses to give us friends, He doesn't always write on the wall whether they'll be an acquaintance, a part of our twelve or closer than a brother- so we'd better stop trying to read the wallpaper.

*I was going to share another Emerson quote on unrequited love but I can't find it, will have to type it up later (which, for my money, unrequited love is the beginning of selflessness, love and friendship. as Bonhoeffer said, "it is only when he is a burden that another person is really a brother and not merely an object to be manipulated.")

in Texas (or the Dallas area) drive-in theaters are a galaxy away so if you'd like to save gas and still lose the couch potato moniker then visit any of these hotels, shopping centers, museums and (yes) theaters that offer outdoor movie nights

the NYLO hotel in Frisco offers a hip urban feel about 20 miles from the nearest city limit and movies by their super cool pool

Watters Creek is a mixed use shopping development in Allen- shop 'til you drop to watch a movie on the lawn! tired of the same old art house theater experience? then move outside to the cement playground (no, there's not a literal cement playground) in front of the Angelika Film Center (in Dallas) for the closest thing the big city offers to the drive-in of your childhood (except your car will be valeted and you'll watch the moving from the collapsible lawn furniture you brought) after an afternoon looking at inanimate objects at the Nasher Sculpture Center, move to the lawn for all the motion any one person could possibly want!

wanna tell your friends you braved the wilds of Oak Cliff and lived to... tell about it?! go to the Belmont for a beautiful view of Dallas' skyline and a movie by their gentrified pool

if you still prefer the comforts of restrooms and A/C then make the hike to Main St. in Grapevine to the Palace Theatre, you won't regret it!

I believe that God does not view what happens in time linearly because He exists beyond the boundaries of time (His creation) and therefor is not limited by it. we escape the limitations of time when our earthly body dies and our spirit exists apart from time. proof of determinism- death. proof of free will- you're not dead, yet. "I'm not dead, yet!"

we live in an ever-increasingly wired world. friends are just a mouse click away. communication knows no limits in the wired world. one day "ESP" will happen, it'll have some catchy name like iThink or Microsoft Brain Windows (I know, Windows isn't a name Microsoft uses anymore but everyone hates Vista so...) my point is that all of this communication is great but nothing can replace physical presence.
