why is it called a cookie?

seriously, even Cookie Monster couldn't help me out. why is it called a cookie? if it's anything like employ/employer/employee then it kinda doesn't make sense that only one cooked item gets the name "cookie"
just look at this and see if
employ is to employer is to employee
as
cook is to cooker is to cookie
