forgiveness
"the second remedy is really and truly to believe in the fogiveness of sins. A great deal of our anxiety to make excuses comes from not really believing in it: from thinking that God will not take us to Himself again unless He is satisfied that some sort of case can be made out in our favour. But that would not be forgiveness at all. Real forgiveness means looking steadily at the sin, the sin that is left over without any excuse, after all allowances have been made, and seeing it in all its horror, dirt, meanness and malice, and nevertheless being wholly reconciled to the man who has done it. That, and only that, is forgiveness; and that we can always have from God if we ask for it." -C.S. Lewis

I read this as well. I make a lot of excuses sometimes....
ReplyDeleteWow. I needed to read this today.
ReplyDeleteI'll be honest, I saw it up last night, but I didn't actually read it...
I'm glad I 'saved' it for today, though, because I need it more today. Amazing how sleep can change a frame of mind.
Also, I didn't even notice that some of your blog links are fadi n g a w a y.
Clever.
Where has everyone gone??
Brain dead, yes.
ReplyDeleteBut, some people don't have that problem--
some people
DREAM IN MAGNIFICANT COLORS
Hahaha. Nothin' is wrong with that.
ReplyDeleteI was making fun of the way the kid said it-- not the actual line. C'mon-- you have to admit that the kid was sorta goofy in that moment.
Strange that you should ask that though, because, for a cool week or so, my blogspot was titled "Dream in Color".
True...
ReplyDeleteYeah, it was before I debuted it. I test drove several 'titles' before I settled w/ the current (which was inspired by a Thoreau quote)
"Dream in Red"
"A Colorful Dream"
"A Dream in Color"
"Dream in Color"
Gosh, I'm sure y'all have debated endlessly the merits of where to post comments in response to other people's comments, but the current set-up of posting on the other person's blog really makes it tough for the third-person audience to follow along. True, it's convenient in the short-term, since Blogger will notify you when someone has responded to you, but it greatly hinders the blog's ability to be a chronicle of whole conversations/thought processes/etc. Oh well, I guess I'm the minority on this one, right?
ReplyDeleteAnyway, Creth, fantastic quote. C.S. Lewis has a great way of pointing out how humanity gets in the way of its seeing God as He truly is.
