how do we learn the secret of contentment?
"I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do everything through Him who gives me strength"
for the longest time I never could see the connection
of course I'd heard verse thirteen a million times
but then it wasn't until I was in college that verses eleven and twelve really stood out and caught my attention
and I wondered what the secret was
and I couldn't figure out that that is what verse thirteen was saying
the verse I had known my entire life
that's the secret to contentment
granted, knowing this isn't enough
application is where I struggle

  1. application is always the catch....my life would be GREAT as long as I didn't have to apply what I have learned

  2. I agree. Application is quite difficult. Understanding that Christ gives us strength is paramount, but actually allowing that to affect the way you face each situation is just tough. Because it involves 1) the acknowledgement to Christ that we need His strength 2) the willingness to rely on His strength as our own and 3) putting to rest our own strength in the midst of it all. That's a lot of abstract things to try to do and also not try to do...
